Corpus Christi (29th May)

Popularly known as Corpus Christi, today we celebrate the Feast of the Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ. It is a celebration of Christ’s greatest gift to us, his own Body and Blood which we receive in the Eucharist. Until recent times, there were two separate Feast Days, one for the body of Christ celebrated on the Thursday or Sunday after Trinity Sunday, and the other for the most Precious Blood of Jesus on 1st July. Today’s Gospel is St Luke’s account of the feeding of the five thousand. We are reminded of how Christ provides in abundance from the little we have to offer. Our greatest gift, the Eucharist, is something we should always value. It gives us nourishment to our lives and enables us to live like Christ, full of love and always ready to give.

10th Sunday of Year C (5th June)

Jesus brings back to life the only son of a widow in the town of Nain. This was a miracle witnessed by crowds of people, and as a result, the power and reputation of Jesus spread all over the countryside. We too have a duty to spread the word of Jesus all over Burnt Oak and beyond.

May Procession

This Sunday (29th May) we have our May Procession at 3.30. We start in the Church and then process to Our Lady’s grotto for the crowning of the statue, the Rosary and Devotions, and then process back to the church for Benediction. It is particularly appropriate to receive the blessing of the Eucharist on this Feast of Corpus Christi. After Benediction, there will be refreshments in the Parish Centre.

Referendum

Hail Holy Queen

Hail Holy Queen, Mother of Mercy:

Hail, our life, our sweetness  and our hope;

To thee do we cry, poor banished children of Eve;

To thee do we send up our sighs,

mourning and weeping in this vale of tears.

Turn then most gracious advocate,

thine eyes of mercy towards us; And after this our exile,

show unto us the blessed fruit of thy womb, Jesus.

O clement, O loving,  O sweet Virgin Mary

(Remember the lady who couldn’t start her car, it wasn’t her car!)

A few moments later, she found her own car parked nearby. She transferred her bags to it and drove to the police station. The sergeant to whom she told the story could not stop laughing. He pointed to the other end of the counter where four pale men were reporting a carjacking by a mad elderly woman described as less than five feet tall, glasses, white hair  and carrying a large hand gun. No charges were filed.
