TakeHomeNews - 11th Sunday of the Year

16-Jun-2018

11th Sunday of the Year (B)

Today’s Gospel presents two parables explaining the growth of  God’s kingdom. Although the growth takes place without our recognising it at the time, we can have some part in its growth. It is often the small acts of good that we do that can make a difference, although at the time they may appear insignificant. With many instances like this, the kingdom of God grows like a mustard seed, which is the smallest of all seeds and then grows into the biggest shrub of them all.

Come & See Evening

We have an opportunity to build up God’s kingdom on Wednesday when we have a Come and See Evening for those who are thinking of becoming Catholics. If you know of anyone who is thinking of becoming a Catholic or a baptised Catholic who has not received the other Sacraments, please bring them along on Wednesday at 8pm in the stage area of the Canon Smyth Parish Centre. We will explain the process of preparation which starts in the autumn without making any commitment yet. There will be refreshments and an opportunity to find out more.

Walk to Church Sunday

Next weekend, we are having another ‘Walk to Church Day’. This is a way in which we can protect our environment by cutting down our carbon emissions and at the same time keeping ourselves fit and healthy. We encourage everyone to do their part and leave behind our cars at home and walk all the way to church for the Saturday evening Mass and all the Sunday Masses.

Let It Be

We continue our reflections on Our Lady this Tuesday with the video ‘ Let It Be’, produced by CAFÉ. We start with refreshments at 7.30pm and the session starts at 7.30, concluding by 9pm. Do come along.

New Altar Servers

Children who have already received their First Holy Communion are invited to become an altar server.

There will be a rehearsal for those who are interested on Tuesday 3rd July at 5pm in the Church.

If there is a group who would like to lead a hymn or song also please let Fr Colin know. The Mass will be followed by a barbecue and other foods for which we invite you to bring along an inter-national dish. We will provide the drink.

Data Protection

You will be aware that the General Data Protection Regulations came into force on 25th May. As a parish and as a Diocese as a whole we must be careful to comply with these regulations. Any data that we hold  must be locked away and not passed on to anybody else. In order to assure you of this we are amending the application forms for Baptism, First Communion, Confirmation and Funeral. Certain volunteers in the parish, for  example rota preparers, have details about other parishioners. If you are one of these volunteers, please ask me for a form which needs to be read, signed and returned to me. If anyone is concerned about data we might have about them, please speak to Fr Colin. Thank you very much for your co-operation over this matter.
