OUR PRIESTS & SECRETARY
Canon Colin Davies arrived at the Annunciation in September 2007 as Parish Priest. For the previous 13 years he was Parish Priest at Our Lady’s Church in St John’s Wood.
Born in Paddington in 1948, Fr Colin was brought up in Hampstead where he attended St Mary’s Convent School and St Anthony’s Prep School before going to St Benedict’s School in Ealing. On leaving school in 1966, he worked in the Statistics Department at the National Coal Board in Victoria, rising to become Senior Statistician by the time he left in 1981.
He had become an altar server at St Mary’s Church in Hampstead at the age of 11 and was also involved as a Reader and Eucharistic Minister when these ministries were introduced in the 1960s and 1970s. He became a member of the Parish Council and the parish was a large part of his life when he felt a calling to the priesthood.
Father Colin started at Allen Hall Seminary in Chelsea in September 1981. During his third year he lived at St Thomas’s in Fulham to gain parish experience. He was ordained to the diaconate on 29th June 1986 and spent his diaconate year at Westminster Cathedral. He was ordained to the priesthood on 6th June 1987 at St Thomas More church, Swiss Cottage by Cardinal Hume.
His first appointment was to the Holy Apostles in Pimlico before moving to Edmonton in 1992. In 2007, he was invited to become a member of the Cathedral Chapter, and hence become a Canon. The Canons gather in Westminster Cathedral monthly for a meeting, Vespers and Mass, and also take on the role of being The College of Consultors for the Cardinal. In 2014, Canon Colin was asked to be an Episcopal Vicar in North London, conducting several confirmations in the Barnet, Brent and Harrow Deaneries. He relinquished this post when Bishop John Sherrington was appointed Bishop in North London early in 2006.
