4th Sunday of Year (C)

Today’s Gospel passage follows on from last week’s passage when Jesus claimed that he was the fulfilment of Isaiah’s prophecy— he was the Messiah. Once the people gathered in the synagogue realised what Jesus was saying, they became enraged, so much so that he was hustled out of the town and he had to make some careful manoeuvers to escape from the crowd. Perhaps there had been so many false prophets in the past, that they could not accept that the Messiah had actually come. Although Jesus was accepted by many and sought after, there were others who made life difficult for him in spreading the Good News.
