TAKEHOME NEWS 2ND JUNE 2024

SOLEMNITY OF THE MOST HOLY BODY AND BLOOD OF CHRIST

(CORPUS CHRISTI)

This Sunday is the solemnity of the Most Holy Body and Blood of Jesus Christ. This mystery is a challenge, a remedy, a promise and a test of true Christian discipleship. Before this mystery, the human senses fail but are beckoned to rise on the wings of faith. The consecrated bread and wine may taste and appear ordinary but have become the bread of eternal life. “The bread I shall give is my flesh for the life of the world,” says Jesus, the True Lamb whose blood cleanses us from our sins as prefigured in the ancient Passover (Exodus 24).

This Mystery is a test of true discipleship. It invites us to believe Jesus’ words, “This is my Body, and this is the Cup of Blood”, and to trust like St Peter did in John 6:68 and said, “To whom shall we go, you have the message of eternal life.

“Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood has eternal life,” says Jesus. Jesus gives himself as food, that we may eat and draw life from him. “As I draw life from my Father, says Jesus, whoever eats me draws life from me.” As we partake in this sacrament, God’s life becomes ours and we are nourished and healed. Let’s pray for a renewal of our faith in the Sacrament of the Body and blood of Jesus Christ.

Happy Sunday
