SUNDAY 19 OCTOBER 2025

Twenty-Ninth Sunday in Ordinary Time Year C

Courage to all, Persevering in Prayer

When the Lord comes, will he find any faith on earth? Would he find people who persevere in prayer, believing in its power to transform lives? This Sunday's readings remind us that there is power in a persistent prayer.  Through prayers, we lift our eyes beyond the mountain, to heaven from where our help comes (Ps 30).

God’s people confront their enemies in this Sunday’s first reading (Exodus 17:8-13), and Moses interceded for them. As long as Moses raised his staff above his head in prayer, God’s people had the advantage.

The gesture of raised hands is an image of prayer. Like the widow in this Sunday’s Gospel, from Luke 18:1-8, we are to persist in prayer. Jesus tells us not to be wearied by our trials, but to persist in prayer, so that the Lord will find faith in us when our time of visitation comes. To persevere in prayers, this Sunday’s second reading (2 Timothy 3:14, 4:2) tells us to turn to and be equipped by God’s faithful word, by whose strength we patiently wait upon God in prayers even when things seem to be delayed. Lord, by your word, help us to persist in prayers, remembering that, in your time, you make all things beautiful. Amen

Happy Sunday.

Fr. Chinedu
