Pentecost Sunday Year C 2025

Pentecost: An Outpouring of God’s Love

Pentecost marks the completion of Jesus’ Paschal mystery and the birth of the Church. Fifty days after Easter and following the Ascension, the Holy Spirit, promised by Jesus, was poured out on the apostles (Acts 2:1-11),    filling them with God’s love and power. This gift fulfilled the ancient prophecy of Joel 2:28 and inaugurated the new covenant, no longer written on stone tablets but on human hearts (Jer. 31:31-34; 2 Cor. 3:2-8).

Just as the Jews celebrated their becoming God’s people at Shavout, Christians celebrate Pentecost as the moment the Spirit writes God’s law of love within us.  It is not merely about signs like tongues or prophecy, but about the deep indwelling of divine love, the Holy Spirit, who is the bond between the Father and the Son.

This Love transforms our weakness into courage, ignorance into wisdom    (1 Cor. 15:45; Luke 12:49). It was this inner fire of love, not mere strategy or theology, that drew the multitudes (Acts 2:5). Through the Holy Spirit, we witness with boldness, for only him convicts and converts hearts (Acts 5:32; Rom. 8:16).

Today, we ask for a fresh outpouring to rediscover the joy of our baptism (Gal. 5:16-25) and to be renewed. The Spirit is our Advocate and Teacher (John 15), our living water (John 4; 7:38), and the joy of Christian life. May we all experience a new Pentecost that will transform and empower us to witness with love and boldness.

Happy Pentecost Sunday
