NINETEENTH SUNDAY IN THE ORDINARY TIME YEAR C 2025
NINETEENTH SUNDAY IN THE ORDINARY TIME YEAR C 2025

The Christian Patient Waiting

We patiently await the fulfilment of God’s promises. While patience is often not our strongest point, this Sunday’s readings invite us to imitate the faith of the biblical figures, who patiently awaited God’s promises with ‘faith’, which the second reading from Hebrews 11 calls “The         assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen”.

However, we are reminded that these biblical figures (Abraham,  Sarah……), in their lifetime, did not live to witness the fulfilment of God’s promises to them. (Gen 15:5, 17:1-19). It was in Christ Jesus that every one of the promises is being fulfilled.

In faith, they trusted in God’s faithfulness. Considering themselves pilgrims on earth, they looked forward to the Eternal City, their heavenly homeland.

They trusted that the sufferings of this life are momentary and nothing compared to the glory to be revealed in us.

Just like these biblical figures patiently waited, we too await the fulfilment of God’s promises to us. As pilgrims passing through this   earthly life and returning to our eternal Father, we must, as Jesus tells us in the Gospel (Luke 12:32-48), be awake, ready and have our prayer     candles burning since we do not know the hour of our divine visitation; when God will fulfil his promises.

Lord, as we patiently await the fulfilment of your promises, may we always remember that we are pilgrims on earth, looking forward to our heavenly homeland. Amen

Happy Sunday  Fr. Chinedu
