SECOND SUNDAY OF EASTER (DIVINE MERCY SUNDAY)
SECOND SUNDAY OF EASTER (DIVINE MERCY SUNDAY)

Called to Witness to Mercy

This Sunday, we celebrate the Divine Mercy, the very essence of God. This is a Mercy that surpasses all things, including our sins and limitations. The message of Divine Mercy reminds us that the world finds peace only by trusting in God’s mercy.

We appreciate this mercy more fully as we contemplate the sufferings, death, and resurrection of Christ, in whom God’s love is revealed in its purest form. This contemplation fills us with joy and transforms our lives.

Yet, Divine Mercy must be shared or expressed. As St Paul teaches, we console others with the consolation we have received (2 Corinthians 1:4). When we   receive God’s mercy and become channels of it, as seen in the early Church (Acts 2:42-47), the power of the Resurrection becomes more visible in our midst.

In this Sunday’s Gospel, Jesus gives us peace and the Holy Spirit, enabling us to accept and live out the call of Mercy with all the challenges and sacrifices that may come with it.

As the Resurrection fills us with Joy, we are called to become its witnesses.  To witness to the Resurrection, therefore, is to live a life of mercy, loving, being compassionate and forgiving as we have been forgiven in Christ.

May the light of Divine Mercy transform us and flow through us, so that the power of the Resurrection may continue to be evident among us.

Happy Divine Mercy Sunday
