SECOND SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME C
Over Christmastide, we celebrated three 'manifestations' or epiphanies of the Lord; to the Shepherds, to the Magi and to the people at the Baptism. This Sunday, we have the manifestation at Cana, the first of another series; the signs that Jesus worked in this ministry. Traditionally, the others are:Healing the royal official's son: John 4:46–54Healing the paralytic at Bethesda: John 5:1–15Feeding the 5000: John 6:5–14Jesus walking on water: John 6:16–24Healing the man blind from birth: John 9:1–7Raising of Lazarus: John 11:1–45Cana is also listed with the Baptism among the 'Mysteries of Light' in the Rosary, which mark the moments which reveal who Jesus is in His Ministry. And He choses to reveal himself first at a celebration, the party which follows a wedding. Our Lord rejoices when we rejoice. It reminds me of the poem by Hilaire Belloc; “Wherever the Catholic sun doth shine, There’s always laughter and good red wine. At least I’ve always found it so.
With every blessing,
Rev Eugene Curran CM
