TWELFTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME YEAR A
The Lord care for us.
Some crosses and challenges come as we strive to be faithful to God. As we seek to do God’s will and sadly face difficulties because of our faith, we are invited to remember that this is not alien to our faith. However, like Jesus, we are to commend our cause to God.
In this Sunday’s first reading, Jeremiah suffers greatly on account of his faith. Many times, he became discouraged and was tempted to stop speaking in God’s name. Sometimes, fidelity to God brings us crosses. There are moments when the Lord, in his wisdom and love, permits experiences we would rather avoid. During such times, we may wonder whether God truly cares for us. In this Sunday’s first reading, Jeremiah recounts the cost of his faithfulness. But, in the end, he entrusted his cause to God, who judges justly and delivers the righteous. As Scripture says: “Many are the afflictions of the righteous, but from them all the Lord delivers them.”
When your heart is afraid, remember his words in this Sunday’s Gospel: “Do not fear.” Every hair on our head has been counted, and not one falls to the ground without God’s knowledge. If God cares so deeply for every detail of our lives, such as every strand of hair, then we can confidently cast all our burdens upon him, knowing that he truly cares for us. Lord, strengthen our trust in your care. Amen.
Happy Sunday Fr. Chinedu
DAY FOR LIFE
Today, Sunday 21 June, we mark the Day for Life under the theme “The Wonder of the Child in the Womb.” The theme also recognises the loss of children who died before birth and the grief of their parents. The bishops’ message and prayers can be found on the Day for Life website: www.dayforlife.org.
The second collection will go towards the Day for Life Fund, which distributes grants to organisations that promote respect for life from conception until natural death. You can also donate online via the Day for Life website.
