SIXTH SUNDAY OF Easter year c 2025
Christian Obedience: A Fruit of Love and Path to Intimacy with God.
In this Sunday’s Gospel, Jesus says, “If anyone loves me, he will keep my word… and we will come to him and make our home with him” (John 14:23). This is an invitation to a life of intimacy with God driven, not by fear but as a fruit of the knowledge of God’s love.
In Jesus, we have seen and experienced the Father’s love (2 Cor 5:14). Thus, we are moved to respond in love through our obedience.
However, true obedience is only possible through the Holy Spirit, who fulfils in us the righteous requirement of the law. (Romans 8:2) and makes us heirs of God’s promise of a city whose temple and light is the Lord (Rev 21). Through the Holy Spirit, our hearts are spiritually circumcised as opposed to the physical circumcision. (Deut 30:6, Colossians 2:12). So, we are now Children through faith. (Galatians 3:24-25).
Through obedience, we yield and open ourselves to the Holy Spirit, who brings into our lives Christ’s peace (John 14:27). Let’s be clear, we are Incapable of true obedience without the Holy Spirit, by whose power our obedience becomes a joyful, life-giving encounter with the living God. So, we pray, come, Holy Spirit, and fill us with your love. Amen.
