Choosing Wisely
"We know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose" (Romans 8:28).
This scripture verse has long been one of my favourite bible verses because it reminds me of God’s faithfulness to his plan for us, which is always better than ours. Yes, trusting God does not mean life will be free from suffering, but it means that, if by our daily choices we allow God, his loving purpose will ultimately prevail.
Choosing God is true wisdom which places us within his plan, which the Prophet Jeremiah calls, “A plan to give us a future with hope” (Jeremiah 29:11). Yet God's purpose greatly hinges on our daily choices. In the First Reading, Solomon wisely chose wisdom above all else. This pleased and moved God to bless him beyond his expectations.
Now, true Wisdom is Christ himself (1 Cor 1:24), without whom we waste our lives pursuing what is of little or no value. With God’s Wisdom, however, we recognise God’s Kingdom as the hidden treasure and the pearl of great value (Matthew 13:44-52), worth sacrificing everything to possess; for nothing surpasses the value of knowing and coming to life in Christ (Philippians 3:8).
Hence, Proverbs 4:7 exhorts us: "…..Get wisdom. Though it costs all you have, get understanding." Lord, help us to choose you and your plan for us above all else, so that in the end, all will work together for our good. Amen
