God’s Grace Triumphs
This Sunday is the Solemnity of Saints Peter and Paul. We reflect on how God uses the weak to confound the strong, showing that transcendent power is of the Lord (2 Cor 4:6-7). As a Church, we stand on an Apostolic Foundation wounded by human frailties, but strengthened by the power of grace. We are reminded that our weaknesses and imperfections can be transformed by grace.
St. Peter, full of zeal, denied Jesus three times and often obstructed God’s plan. Jesus rebuked him and said, Satan, get behind me. After Jesus' death, he abandoned Christ’s mission and went back to fishing. St. Paul, on the other hand, violently persecuted the Church. He consented to St. Stephen’s martyrdom. Therefore, he considered himself the least of the apostles (1 Corinthians 15:9-11).
God’s grace, however, triumphed in their lives. In this Sunday’s Gospel, Jesus says to Peter, “You are Peter, and on this Rock, I will build my Church. The gates of hell will not prevail against it” (Matthew 16:18). Despite their flaws, Saints Peter and Paul became pillars of our faith. Thus, St Paul acknowledges that God’s grace toward us was not in vain” (1 Corinthians 15:10), and that he has been poured like a libation (2 Timothy 4:6-8). In this celebration, may we remember that we are never too weak or sinful to be used or saved by God, who is never put off by our pasts. May God’s Grace triumph in our lives. Through Christ our Lord. Amen
Happy Sunday Fr Chinedu
PETER'S PENCE SECOND COLLECTION TODAY
Peter’s Pence is a concrete way to support the Holy Father in his mission of service to the Universal Church. It is a gesture of communion and participation in the Pope’s mission to proclaim the Gospel, promote peace, and spread Christian charity.
To support this collection, check out their web site: ObolodiSanPietro.va, containing information about Peter’s Pence.
APPOINTMENTS 2025
The Vincentians have received news of our appointments for the coming year, and it will involve some significant changes here in Mill Hill and Burnt Oak. The Superior General, Fr Tomaz Mavric, has appointed Fr Eugene as Director of the Daughters of Charity for Great Britain and Australia, and he will take up this post in early September. Fr Chinedu will come to Mill Hill as Parish Priest of both Mill Hill and Burnt Oak. Fr Ako will move to Burnt Oak. Fr Stephen Monaghan has been appointed Superior of the Community and will reside in Mill Hill. The changeover will take place at the beginning of September.
OUR PARISH SUMMER FAYRE
Our Summer Fayre for 2025 will take place on Saturday, 12th of July 2025, 12 noon to 4 pm in the parish centre and grounds. Doors will open from 12 noon. We invite everyone to come and join and support this fundraising event for our.parish. We need volunteers to help us in the Summer Fayre like in the physical setting up and running the stalls such as the tombola and cake stand and helping out in small tasks before, during and after care, so we encourage our Parishioners if you are interested to give your name and contact number to any of our Priests.
We would like to ask everyone if you could donate prizes and gifts for the raffle, plus wines and spirits for the tombola. For more details, please speak to any of our Priests or to any member of our Parish Pastoral Council. Please keep an eye on the Takehomenews.
ST VINCENT DE PAUL SOCIETY
Some months ago, we announced plans to establish an SVP Society in our parish. Thank you for your patience. Since then, both Mill Hill and Burnt Oak parishes have engaged with the SVP Society, who have kindly agreed to assist in setting up a joint conference for our communities. Representatives from SVP will speak at all Masses next weekend to share more about this initiative.
PARISH PREMISES CLEAN-UP
As some of you may know, Gerry, our gardener, has been unwell for some time. He played a vital role in maintaining the church grounds. While we priests have done our best to care for the garden and tidy up, there's only so much we can manage on our own.
We’re inviting all parishioners to join us for a Church Premises Clean-Up on Saturday, 5th July, following the Morning Mass. We'll begin at 10:40 AM and finish by 11:40 AM. Many hands make light work, so the more helpers we have, the quicker the job will be!
Tasks include cutting grass, watering flowers, picking up litter, sweeping, removing cobwebs, setting up tea and coffee, and, of course, friendly conversation. There’s something for everyone. After the clean-up, we’ll gather in the Parish Centre for light refreshments: tea, coffee, cookies, juice, etc. Let’s come together as a parish family to care for our shared space. Thank you in advance.
BAPTISM PREPARATION
There will be a preparation session for parents who wish to have their baby baptised, next Sunday 6th July at 4pm in the church.
CANCELLATION OF EMMAUS JUBILEE FESTIVAL
Our sincere apologies for any inconvenience and disappointment caused, especially to those who were really looking forward to the weekend at SPEC Retreat Centre.
