SOLEMNITY OF MOST HOLY TRINITY
SOLEMNITY OF MOST HOLY TRINITY

Called to a Communion of Self-giving Love

This Sunday, we celebrate the Most Holy Trinity, a mystery at the heart of our Christian faith.

This intriguing mystery tells us that God is one in three Persons, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, and not some solitary being out there. But rather a perfect communion of self-giving love. We see this right from the beginning of creation (Genesis), where we hear that God’s Spirit hovered over the waters, and God the Father spoke His Eternal Word (Jesus), bringing all into existence.

This sacrificial communion of self-giving love is revealed perfectly in God’s only begotten Son, whom the Father gave to save the world (John 3:16-18). God loves and gives all.

Created in God’s image, we are called to live in such a way that generates life, love, unity and healing, not death, division and hurt. This is only possible by the Holy Spirit (God’s Love) poured into our hearts.  Therefore, God calls us to unity, peace, and reconciliation, as St Paul reminds us in the second reading (2 Corinthians 13:11-13).

So, you see, this Mystery is not simply a doctrine to understand, but a relationship to enter. No wonder God reveals Himself as a “God of tenderness and compassion” (Exodus 34) so that we may not worship from afar, but intimately in love. Lord, help us to experience and to become witnesses to this love within our families, parish, and community. Amen.

Happy Sunday

Fr. Chinedu
