14th Sunday Of Year C

Parish visiting is one of the delights of priesthood—being welcomed into somebody’s home with an opportunity to get to know them, help them and encourage them.

But when a priest or seminarian goes out for the first time, it can be quite a nervous experience. In today’s Gospel, Jesus sends out some of his disciples in pairs, giving them specific instructions and warning them that they would feel like lambs among wolves. Not everywhere would they be made welcome. They returned rejoicing that they had been able to use the name of the Lord to overcome any evil. The message for us is to keep on proclaiming the Lord even if we meet with opposition on the way.

Harrow Mencap

After today’s morning Masses, Harrow Mencap will be holding a coffee morning (also including tea and delicious cakes) in the Parish Centre. Do go in and have some refreshments after Mass this morning. Harrow Mencap provides opportunities, resources and support for people with learning difficulties in the area. There will be a retiring collection to support them in this work.

Sea Sunday

Next week is Sea Sunday, when the Church prays for all those who live and work at sea. There will be a second collection for the Apostleship of the Sea, the official maritime welfare agency of the Catholic Church in Great Britain. It provides practical and spiritual support to seafarers visiting our ports. Envelopes are available at the back of the church if you would like to Gift Aid your contributions. Also available are cards relating to the corporal works of mercy.

Fr Jozef Urbanic

Father Jozef will be with us again this August. He is currently in the parish of Our Lady of Muswell Hill, having arrived from Slovenia last week.

Our new deacon, Carlos Quito, paid a visit to the parish last week. He will be moving into The Annunciation on 9th September.

Walk to Church Sunday

Next Sunday we are encouraging those who are able to walk to church. We had a successful occasion last October when 168 adults and 131 children participated. This project is part of the Justice and Peace campaign to save fuel, protect the environment and keep healthy.

Thank You

Last Sunday the Parish raised £283 for Peter’s Pence collection.

Pilgrimage to Walsingham

A group of parishioners, led by Fr David, will be going on the Diocesan Pilgrimage to Walsingham on Saturday, gathering at Burnt Oak Station to be picked up by coach at 7.45am. This will be a major event in the Year of Mercy. Later in the year we will be having a second collection to support the expansion at the National Shrine in Walsingham.

RCIA Sessions

Sessions for those adults who are considering baptism, reception into the church or confirmation start on Tuesday 11th October at 8pm, upstairs in the Parish Centre. The Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA) is a process whereby adults journey in the faith toward receiving the Sacraments and become full members of the Catholic Church. Please let those interested know about this, or you may like to introduce them to one of the priests.

Fr Colin Away

Fr Colin will be away from the middle of Sunday morning, returning on Wednesday evening.

Baptism Preparation

The next session for parents who wish to have their baby baptised will be on Sunday 10th July at 4pm in the Dominic Room in the Parish Centre. Application forms can be collected from the sacristy.

First Communion 2017

Application forms are available in the porch for parents who wish to apply for their child to join the First Communion Programme. Forms should be returned by 11th September at the latest. The child should be starting in Year 3 or above next September. There will be an introductory meeting for the parents who have applied for their child on Tuesday 27th September at 7.45pm in the Parish Centre. There will then be 7 sessions for parents and 7 sessions for children during the course of the programme, starting on Tuesday 4th October for parents (7.45pm) and Sunday 9th October (9.15am) for children.

More Catechists Required

We need some more catechists to help prepare the children for First Holy Communion. This would be ideal for a parent whose child has already received Holy Communion and is familiar with the programme. If you are interested, please speak to Fr Colin or Vivian Sproule.

No 7.30am Mass

There will be no 7.30am Mass this Monday.

Hail Holy Queen

Hail Holy Queen, Mother of Mercy:

Hail, our life, our sweetness and our hope;

To thee do we cry, poor banished children of Eve;

To thee do we send up our sighs, mourning and weeping in this vale of tears.

Turn then most gracious advocate, thine eyes of mercy towards us;

And after this our exile, show unto us the blessed fruit of thy womb, Jesus.

O clement, O loving, O sweet Virgin Mary

Four: 12/Summer Fayre
