Divine Wisdom and True Freedom

The Lord grants us true freedom by leading us gently into the knowledge of the truth. To walk as God’s children in freedom and holiness of life, especially amid the world’s confusion, we need divine wisdom.

Today’s first reading (Wisdom 9:13-18) reminds us that no one can know the mind of God without the gift of His wisdom. Human reasoning alone is fragile; only the Spirit of God teaches us the fleeting nature of created things which we often crave, so that we may cling more closely to what endures. With God’s wisdom, we learn to walk the path of truth that makes us truly free. Thus, the psalmist prays: “Teach us to number our days, that we may gain wisdom of heart” (Ps 90).

Jesus is the Wisdom of God made manifest, dwells among us and invites us to learn from him. It is he who teaches us, through the power of his spirit, how to prioritise and love God above all else, as this Sunday’s Gospel (Luke 14:25-33) tells us.  Healed by God’s love, then, we are made capable of loving others rightly, deeply, selflessly and purely. Indeed, without divine wisdom, we risk missing our time of divine visitation and God’s constant offer of divine encounters in the ordinariness of our lives.

So, we pray, Lord, for divine wisdom, that, guided by your spirit, we may walk in true freedom of spirit by loving you above all else. Through Christ Our Lord. Amen

Happy Sunday
