Takehomenews- 28th Sunday of the Year

28th Sunday of Year B

What is wealth in the eyes of God? It is not money or property or possessions. It is Wisdom and Faith and Love. The rich man in today’s Gospel was a good man. He kept all the commandments. However, when Jesus told him to sell everything he owned and give it to the poor, his face fell and he went away. To gain real wealth, spiritual wealth, we need to give up material wealth. Peter remarks that he and other disciples have given up their livelihood to follow Jesus. But Jesus tells him that they will be rewarded a hundredfold, now and in the life to come.

Prisoners Sunday

Today is Prisoners Sunday when we remember all those in prion for whatever reason and their families as well as those working in the Prison Service. Today marks the start of Prisoners Week and below is a prayer we can use during the coming week

Lord, you offer freedom to all people. We pray for those in prison. Break the bonds of fear and isolation that exist. Support with your love prisoners and their families and friends, prison staff and all who care. Heal those who have been wounded by the actions of others, especially the victims of crime. Help us to forgive one another, to act justly, love mercy and walk humbly together with Christ in his strength and in his Spirit, now and every day. Amen.

Mary’s Meals

Mary’s Meals will be coming to our church in a couple of week’s time to take away your unwanted clothing and bedding (No duvets or pillows please)

Over the next few weeks please collect your unwanted clothes and put them in tied sacks. Then before 12.00 noon on Sunday 28 October bring them with you when you come to Mass. Not only will you be getting rid of un-wanted clothes/bedding and giving yourself a little more space but you will also benefit a really worthwhile charity. Mary’s Meals feeds children one good meal every day at school in over 15 countries. Because of our low costs we can do this for as little as £13.90 per child per year!

World Mission Sunday

Next Sunday, the Holy Father invites all Catholics to contribute to a special collection for Missio, his official charity for overseas mission. Your support on World Mission Sunday will help brave missionaries in building a future of hope both in Ethiopia and around the world. Please join in this special day that unites Catholics all over the world in prayer, celebration and care for our mission of the Church. You will be able to Gift Aid all donations by using envelopes provided by Missio. Thank you to all who contribute to Missio regularly through the Red Boxes. Please return your Red Box when convenient and you can collect your emptied box from the table at the back of the church a week or two afterwards
