TWENTY-FIFTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME YEAR C

THE ASTUTENESS OF A SHADY STEWARD

Ironically, this Sunday’s Gospel presents the astuteness of a dishonest steward for our careful consideration.  After exploiting the master, the steward is now called to account. He realises that only mercy can   secure his future.

Like the steward, we will render an account of our lives. As the steward had a chance to make things right; we too have been offered this moment to make things right.  The Steward shared the same fate with the exploiters of the poor in this Sunday’s first reading, whom the Lord swears to call to judgment.

This steward, however, is by no means a model of Christian virtue since his intentions and means were selfish. But Jesus recognised his prudent calculation to use his last opportunity to show mercy.

We are stewards to all that has been gratuitously entrusted to us by God in Jesus who sacrificed himself as a ransom for us, as St Paul tells us in the second reading. Thus, we owe Jesus our lives (2 Corinthians 5:15). But the question is, am I using the grace of this moment as good steward to make things right by being merciful for the sake of charity? Happy Sunday   Fr. Chinedu

EVANGELII GADUIUM

Today, the second collection of Evangelii Gaudium Sunday calls us to be joyous in proclaiming our faith. ‘Evangelii Gaudium’ is Latin for “Joy of the Gospel”. It is a Sunday more commonly known as Home Mission Sunday, a day for us as the Catholic community in England and Wales to celebrate the beauty of our faith, and our shared commitment to witness to the fullness of life in Christ.
