PENTECOST

Today is a day to wish each other a Happy Birthday, because Pentecost represents the birth of the Church as we know it. The Holy Spirit came down on the Apostles, giving them the power and the gifts to carry on the work of Jesus, who had now ascended into heaven. The Apostles were able to preach the Word of God boldly, often with strong opposition. They were instrumental in building the Church, baptising many and reaching many communities. This apostolic work has continued, over the centuries and we too as members of the church, filled with the Holy Spirit, have a duty to live and spread the Good News of Jesus Christ. May we be open to the Holy Spirit working in us, guiding us and giving us the will and the strength to do God’s will.

PRAYER FOR THE QUEEN

This weekend we celebrate the Platinum Jubilee of Her Majesty the Queen. We congratulate her on this amazing achievement, reigning over our country and Commonwealth countries for 70 years. We will be saying the following prayer at the end of Masses this weekend:

PRIEST O Lord, save Elizabeth, our Queen

PEOPLE And hear us on the day we call upon you

PRIEST O Lord, hear my prayer

PEOPLE And let my cry come before you.

PRIEST The Lord be with you

PEOPLE And with your Spirit

PRIEST Almighty God we Pray

That your servant, Elizabeth our Queen, who, buy your providence has received the governance of this realm,

May continue to grow in every virtue,

That, imbued with your heavenly grace,

She may be preserved from all that is harmful and evil

And, being blessed with your favour

May, with the royal family,

Come at last into your presence,

Through Christ, who is the way, the truth and the life

And who lives and reigns with you

In the unity of the Holy Spirit,

God for ever and ever.

PEOPLE Amen

SUMMER FAYRE

Our Summer Fayre takes place on Saturday 9th July, between 12 noon and 3pm. There will be Games, Tombola, Toys, Cakes, Plants, Bric-a-Brac, Face Painting and several other stalls. There will be plenty of food and drink available. Items can be brought to the Parish Centre during Office Hours or brought to the Presbytery.

We are looking for volunteers to assist at the stalls, and also helpers to set things up on Friday evening. If you are able to help in any way, please speak to one of the priests. Thank you.

WEARING OF FACE MASKS

We feel that the time has come to relax the need for wearing masks in church. However, if you prefer to wear one that is fine. Thank you very much for your co-operation over all the rules and recommendations during the lockdown period and since.

FIRST COMMUNIONS

On Saturday 25 of our children will be receiving their First Holy Communion. Please pray for them that they may always value this presence of Jesus in their lives. Those children in Paige and Michelle’s group will be making it at the 2pm Mass, and those in Tayo, Mary, Mavis and Savannah’s group at 3.30. There will be a rehearsal for all the children in the church at 6.pm on Friday.

WELCOME BACK

We welcome back those who have been away from the church since lockdown. The bishops have encouraged all Catholics to fulfil the Sunday obligation as from today. We all need to let others know about this. Copies of the letter from the Bishops are available at the back of the church. Please take copies for those who need to know.

MEETING FOR EUCHARISTIC MINISTERS

There will be a meeting for Eucharistic Ministers at 7.30pm on Wednesday 15th June in the church.

The re-commissioning of Eucharistic Ministers for a further year will take place at Masses on the Feast of Corpus Christi (18th and 19th June).

If you have not done so already, Eucharistic Ministers are asked to please let Fr Colin know their email addresses. This will enable the rota to be sent directly to you in the future.

ESTHER KELLY R.I.P

Please pray for the soul of ESTHER KELLY (Bridget) whose cremation will take place on Wednesday 15th June.

FOODBANK FOR THE COMMUNITY

Items for the local foodbank can be left in one of the boxes in the porch. Many thanks to those who have donated already. It has been very much appreciated.
